The Stella Hoodie is named in honour of POGO ambassador, Stella. Stella was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia when she was just 18 months old. Since her diagnosis, Stella has had several complications that require medial attention and often lead to hospital admissions.

Check out the entire story below:

When Stella was just 18 months old, she had a fever that wouldn’t go away. Her mother brought her to the emergency department at their local hospital, not expecting the news she was about to receive. After a series of tests, mom and Stella were in an ambulance headed to The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto—dad and Stella’s twin sister, Sophia, followed by car. Only one parent was allowed in the building due to COVID, so dad was sitting in his vehicle on speakerphone when the doctors diagnosed Stella with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

Since her diagnosis, Stella has had several complications that require attention and often lead to hospital admissions.

“The POGO Satellite Clinic in Orillia is not far from our community, and it is often our first stop when Stella is sick. They determine how serious the issue is and if we need to travel all the way to Toronto for tests and treatment, or if we can get the care we need closer to home.” - Sara and Charles

POGO’s Provincial Pediatric Oncology Satellite Program allows families who live outside major city centres to receive certain components of care at community hospitals closer to home and enables Ontario’s five hospitals with specialized childhood cancer programs to increase their capacity to provide more complex treatment and/or monitoring.
