Rachel’s Hoodie is inspired by childhood cancer champion, Rachel Friesen.
Rachel was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) when she was just 15 years old.
It all began when Rachel started feeling unusually tired. Over time, her fatigue got worse. Eventually, her 2-block walk to school began to feel exceptionally long. And the 3-flights of stairs to her locker left her feeling winded. Suddenly, she no longer felt like doing anything.
Rachel made a doctor's appointment, whereby they discovered she had an enlarged spleen. Immediately, they directed her to the emergency room. After a few blood tests, Rachel was diagnosed with leukemia.
Fortunately, Rachel had a great support system built of family and friends along with amazing doctors and nurses in the hospital. Camp Trillium also played an integral part in Rachel’s recovery. She made lifelong friends and eventually went on to be staff for six years.
Now, Rachel is 27 and works in education, teaching Kindergarten. Also, Rachel holds a bachelor's degree from Western University in Childhood and Social Institutions and Psychology.
