Meagan Bebenek was just 4-years-old when she was diagnosed with an inoperable and malignant brain tumour.

Meagan was just weeks away from her 5th birthday when she drew a special picture for Mother's Day. As she handed it to her mom, Denise, she explained she had drawn two people in the photo - one was mommy, and the other was daddy. Then, Meagan drew herself above her parents, saying she was a little angel who would always be with them. It had been five months since her diagnosis of brain stem glioma, a malignant and inoperable brain tumour. Never once did she complain about her treatments. Instead, Meagan focused her time making and wrapping presents to share with her caregivers and friends. These gestures were her five-year old way of saying thank you for their love and caring, and perhaps even goodbye.

On June 17, 2001, Meagan passed away peacefully with her family right there by her side. Her story is one of courage, spirit and hope providing inspiration to all. Meagan is the reason why Meagan's HUG began; however, all our Meagan's HUG heroes are the reason we continue.
