Lucas’s Hoodie is inspired by childhood cancer champion, Lucas Aragao.
Lucas was diagnosed with a brain tumour at 15 years old. Up until his diagnosis, Lucas was an avid soccer player. As a Brazilian native, he came by it honestly. Soccer was part of his identity.
One day, Lucas began seeing double while playing soccer. Initially, he thought it was just fatigue. But, when it got progressively worse, and he ended up permanently cross-eyed, it became clear something much more significant was going on.
After a series of diagnostic tests at SickKids, Lucas was diagnosed with a brain tumour. The news was devastating to him. Not only was he scared, but his soccer career was over.
Eventually, after undergoing brain surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy, Lucas beat cancer. Ultimately, his journey with cancer & his love for soccer inspired him to pursue studies in Kinesiology at the University of Toronto. Lucas graduated from UofT this past Spring and has spent this summer working in the SickKids cancer research lab.
