Fearless Hoodie

The Fearless Hoodie is a part of our Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (CCAM) Collection and specifically honours children suffering from acute myeloid leukemia (AML) 🎗(Model is wearing a size M)

Leukemia is a type of blood cancer that affects the body’s white blood cells. With leukemia, white blood cells – produced in the bone marrow – are abnormal and can not function properly. As these leukemia cells multiply in the bone marrow, there becomes less room for healthy cells and cancer rapidly progresses.

Leukemia is the most common type of childhood cancer. Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is the 2nd most common leukemia in children. 20% of all childhood leukemia cases are AML. AML is an aggressive cancer that requires urgent treatment.

Typical treatment for AML takes 6 to 8 months. Chemotherapy is the primary form of treatment. Chemotherapy is used to kill the leukemia cells in the blood and bone marrow. Childhood AML patients may also be treated with a stem cell transplant and radiation.

Supportive therapies are also an essential component of AML treatment. Typically, children diagnosed with AML become incredibly ill. For example, many children with AML experience complications like infections, bleeding, and in severe cases, heart failure. Supportive therapies are a critical part of treating these complications.

Thank you for your purchase and for honouring the accomplishments and challenges of Childhood AML patients, their families and survivors in Ontario and beyond.
